BREAST REDUCTION/LIFT
Where do you place the scars in breast reduction/ lift?
A breast reduction / lift can be done with either a short scar (lollipop) or inverted T scar (anchor). The anchor scar allows better contour of the breast but involves more scar length, compared to the lollipop scar.
What complications can occur after breast reduction / lift?
The most common complications to occur after breast reduction / lift are mild. These include local infection, wound disruption that is treated locally, and in people with genetic tendency we sometimes see higher incidence of hypertrophic scars (thickened and/or hyperpigmented). Complications are rare (less than 1%) and when occur they are usually mild and easily manageable.
No. All stitches used in breast augmentation are internal and dissolvable.
Do you need to remove stitches after surgery?
How fast can I get back to normal after surgery?
Pretty fast! You’ll be given a sports bra to wear at all times (excluding showers) for 4 weeks. For the first 2 weeks you should avoid rigorous exercise, sexual intercourse and sleeping on your tummy. Afterwards you are free of any limitations.
Does it hurt and how can I manage the pain?
A personalized pain management plan may include different types of medications that act together synergistically. Dr Wiser performs a regional nerve block that numbs the surgical area using a long-acting anesthetic called Exparel® that is active up to 72 hours. This way most of Dr Wiser patients are feeling minimal pain in the first 3 days after surgery, which is usually when the pain is the most severe.
Do I need a breast reduction or just a breast lift?
In a breast reduction, I reduce the volume of the breast and lift the position of the nipple areolar complex. In a breast lift I only do the latter. You are a candidate for breast reduction if you suffer from heaviness of the breast, skin irritation in the breast folds, and shoulder/back or neck pain, or if you feel that the volume of the breast is too big inside the bra. If you are satisfied with the breast volume while in the bra but the breast is droopy, you are probably a candidate for the breast lift.
